Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 005 Hazard: ERGONOMIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Employee #5, in the Stationery Mill Bordering Department was exposed to excessive ergonomic stress caused by repetitive hand, wrist and arm motions resulting in disabling cumulative trauma disorders to a significant number of individuals. Many recommendations made by the employer's insurance company and by several consultants hired by the employer were either not implemented at all or were not implemented in a timely fashion. Cases of carpal tunnel syndrome, tenosynovitis, tendonitis, bursitis, ganglions and other strains to the hands, wrists, arms and shoulders were recorded on the OSHA Form No. 200.
