29 CFR 1926.652(e)(2)(i): Excavation of material to a level no greater than 2 feet (.61m) below the bottom of the members of the support system was allowed when there were indications while the trench was open to a possible loss of soil from behind or below the bottom of the support system. a) On or about April 6, 2021, at a job site located West of Sentry Drive on West Sunset Drive, Waukesha, WI, employees worked in a trench that was excavated to a depth of 2 feet 6 inches below the trench shield box. This exposed employees to a cave-in and struck-by hazard.
