Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 005 Hazard:

29 CFR 1910.179(n)(3)(iv): Cranes were used for side pulls and not specifically authorized by a responsible person who had determined that the stability of the crane was not thereby endangered and that various parts of the crane would not be overstressed: a) Hydro Laboratory- On February 15, 2018, the employer failed to ensure that only approved side pulls were performed with the Hydro West Crane. The crane was used to upright a large cabinet. The employer did not have any responsible person determine if the lift would endanger the stability of the crane and various parts would not become overstressed. During the lift parts of the rope and drum did become overstressed and this resulted in damage to the rope. No abatement certification or documentation is required for this item.
