29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a) Machine shop: A Hardinge turret, model DSM-59, did not have a guard to protect employees from rotating parts and flying hot chips, on or about 9/19/17. b) Machine shop: A Clausing Colchester 15 Mark 2 lathe machine number 15 did not have a guard to protect employees from rotating parts, on or about 9/19/17. c) Machine shop: A Bridgeport Series I vertical mill machine number 22 serial number 120649-2, did not have a guard to protect employees from rotating parts and flying hot chips, on or about 9/19/17. d) Machine shop near CNC mills: A Baldor belt sander serial number 34C51-5506G2 did not have a bottom guard to protect employees against in-going nip points. The top guard had an opening on the side exposing employees to in-going nip points, on or about 9/19/17. e) Machine shop: A Cincinnati slotter machine did not have a guard to protect employees from rotating parts and flying hot chips, on or about 9/19/17. f) Machine shop: A Bridgeport drill press machine number 23, serial number 58122, did not have a guard to protect employees from rotating parts and flying hot chips, on or about 9/19/17. g) Machine shop: A Harding lathe machine number 16 model TFB-h did not have a guard to protect employees from rotating parts and flying hot chips, on or about 9/19/17. h) Machine shop near testing lab: A Hardinge turret machine number 9 model HC-6222-T did not have a guard to protect employees from rotating parts, on or about 9/19/17. i) Machine shop near manual tool area: A Baldor bench grinder did not have a guard to protect employees from in-going nip points, on or about 9/19/17. j) Machine shop near back wall: A Kalmazoo belt sander model 486-021 serial number 34C051-5506G14 did not have a bottom guard to protect employees from the in-going nip points, on or about 9/19/17. k) Machine shop near manual tool area: A Baldor belt sander model CL3503 serial number 34C62-16 did not have guards on the top or bottom wheels to protect employees from in-going nip points, on or about 9/19/17. NOTE: THE EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION FOR THIS ITEM. FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT IN AN ADDITIONAL PENALTY OF $1000.00 IN ACCORDANCE WITH 29 CFR 1903.19.
