29 CFR 1926.651(k)(1): Daily inspections of excavations, the adjacent areas, and protective systems were not made by a competent person for evidence of a situation that could have resulted in possible cave-ins, indications of failure of protective systems. On or about 15 April 2017, and at times prior thereto, seven workers were working in and around two separate trenches that were from approximately 4 feet 6 inches to 9 feet in depth without a competent person on site during work to perform daily inspections, exposing the workers to the hazard of being caught in a cave-in or engulfment.
