Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 005 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc. a. On or about April 5, 2017, located at the end of conveyor the #3 Pug Mill conveyor in Plant #8, employees sorted brick material by hand where there was a 1-1/4 inch opening where the conveyor met the roller, thereby exposing the employees to an ingoing nip point. b. On or about April 5, 2017, located at the end of conveyor the #2 Pug Mill conveyor in Plant #8, employees sorted brick material by hand where there was a one inch opening where the conveyor met the roller, thereby exposing the employees to an ingoing nip point. c. On or about April 5, 2017, located at the levelators in Plant#8, there were pinch points created when the recessed platforms were raised while employees were standing or walking on, thereby exposing the employees to a caught in hazard.
