Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 005 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a. On or about February 24, 2017, at the above addressed jobsite, employees were operating a lathe and a milling machine, and a drill press and a horizontal band saw, to cut/shape material such as but not limited to: aluminum, steel, and other metal material, without the point of operation guard(s), therefore exposing the operator to flying chips and sparks hazards. b. On or about February 24, 2017, at the above addressed jobsite, employees were operating a bagel machine, a loaf cake machine and a round cake machine, and a bagel former machine; all of which contained ingoing pinch points, nip points, cut points, amputation points and burn points, which were not protected by one or more methods of primary machine guarding, so as to prevent the operator from having any part of his body in the danger zone during the operating cycle, therefore exposing the operators to pinch, nip, cut, thermal and amputate hazards. NOTE: CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
