29 CFR 1926.652(e)(2)(i): Excavation of material to a level no greater than 2 feet (.61m) below the bottom of the members of a support system was permitted where the system was not designed to resist the forces calculated for the full depth of the trench. a) On or about March 20, 2025, at the above addressed jobsite, employees installing storm sewer line in an excavation measuring approximately six (6) feet eight (8) inches in depth, had approximately two (2) feet seven (7) inches of unprotected soil below the trench shield, thereby exposing the employees to cave in hazards.
