Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004B Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to burns from inadequate procedures to monitor furnace lining thickness: a.Wagner Casting. There was no implementation of the procedures detailing when a furnace must be shut down due to unsafe reduction in the furnace lining. Among feasible anatement methods is to: 1. Determine the maximum reduction allowed for a furnace lining. 2. Monitor and document reduction in the furnace lining weekly. 3.Shut down furnaces when lining reduction at or below minimum thickness.
