29 CFR 1926.251(e)(8)(iii): Removal from service. Synthetic web slings shall be immediately removed from service if any of the following conditions are present: (i) Acid or caustic burns (ii) Melting or charring of any park of the sling surface (iii) Snags, punctures, tears or cuts (iv) Broken or worn stitches (v) Distortion of fittings a. On or about November 25, 2015, at the above addressed jobsite, employees were performing steel erection operations with rigging which included, but not limited to synthetic web slings. Synthetic web slings used to hoist material had evidence of snags, punctures, tears, cuts, and broken/worn stiches which were not immediately removed from service, thereby exposing employees to struck by hazards.
