Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1): Employees were not provided effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment and whenever a new hazard that the employees had not been previously trained about was introduced into their work area: a) Applegreen Travel Plaza - Panda Express Restaurant: On or about 6/6/25, employees poured and/or sprayed liquid various corrosive chemicals such as but not limited to Dawn Multi-Surface Heavy Duty Degreaser (sodium hydroxide, monoethanolamine) and DCT High Temperature Grill Cleaner (potassium carbonate) to clean various surfaces and were not provided with effective information and training as employees were not aware of the hazards of the chemicals that they were using; the measures employees can take to protect themselves from these hazards, emergency procedures, the information contained on data sheets, that a scannable QR code existed was located on a wall behind the cooking area and could be used to access safety data sheets via their personal phone; and the meaning of hazard warning pictograms contained on the labels of hazardous chemical containers. In addition to abatement certification, the employer is required to submit abatement documentation for this item. Failure to comply will result in additional penalty of $ 1,000.00 as per 29 CFR 1903.19
