29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. a) On or about April 8, 2025, at an establishment located at 2239 East Glendale Avenue in Appleton, Wisconsin, in Plant 3 - Skid Shop; the employer did not provide machine guarding to protect employees working near the two Pallet Chief nailer machines to prevent employee exposure to the struck-by hazards created by the flying chips and particles produced by the three pneumatically actuated fastening tools mounted to the carriage of the machine. b) On or about April 7, 2025, to April 11, 2025, at an establishment located at 2239 East Glendale Avenue in Appleton, Wisconsin, in Plant 3 - Skid Shop; the employer did not provide machine guarding to protect employees who worked in pairs constructing skids on the three hydraulic scissors lift tables. Employees were exposed to the caught-between hazard created between the concrete floor and the lowering tables. c) On or about April 9, 2025, at an establishment located at 2239 East Glendale Avenue in Appleton, Wisconsin, in Plant 3 - Skid Shop; the employer did not provide machine guarding to protect employees operating Notcher #1 from the caught-between hazards to the hands and fingers created by the pneumatic workpiece clamp.
