Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004A Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.100(a):Employees working in areas where there is a possible danger of head injury from impact, or from falling or flying objects, or from electrical shock and burns, shall be protected by protective helmets. a) The employer did not provide and require employees to wear protective helmets while conducting stucco activities from a supported tubular welded frame scaffold in areas where there are overhead hazards. This violation was most recently observed at 1348 Bainbridge St., Philadelphia, PA 19147 on or about December 13, 2022, where employees performing stucco activities on the ground level, 1st level and 2nd level of the scaffold were not provided and required to wear protective helmets to protect themselves from struck-by hazards from materials such as 5-gallon buckets filled with cement, and cement trowels utilized by employees located on the 1st and 2nd levels of the scaffold. To abate this ongoing violation, the employer must provide and require employees who are exposed to overhead hazards to wear protective helmets.
