29 CFR 1910.107(d)(3): Independent exhaust. Each spray booth did not have an independent exhaust duct system discharging to the exterior of the building, except that multiple cabinet spray booths in which identical spray finishing material is used with a combined frontal area of not more than 18 square feet may have a common exhaust. a. On or about October 29, 2019, Powder Shop, the employer did not ensure that two cabinet spray booths with a combined frontal area of more than 18 square feet, had an independent exhaust duct system discharging to the exterior of the building. The two cabinet spray booths had a common exhaust system discharging to the interior of the building. Employees sprayed powder coatings (combustible dust) at the cabinet spray booths and were exposed to fire and explosion hazards. b. On or about October 29, 2019, Powder Shop, the employer did not ensure that a cabinet spray booth and walk-in type spray booth with a combined frontal area of more than 18 square feet, had an independent exhaust duct system. Employees sprayed flammable liquids at the spray booths and were exposed to fire and explosion hazards.
