Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004A Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(4): Ladders shall be used only for the purpose for which they were designed. a. On or about December 23, 2011 - at the above addressed jobsite, employees used a ten (10') foot step ladder as means of support for a self made scaffold, thereby exposing employees to the hazards associated with falls. b. On or about December 23, 2011 - at the above addressed jobsite, employees were using a horizontally placed fiberglass extension ladder as a scaffold platform approximately eighteen (18') feet above the ground, thereby exposing employees to the hazards associated with falls. c. On or about December 23, 2011 - at the above addressed jobsite, a ten (10') foot step ladder was altered by affixing a 4x4 piece of lumber to one of the footings of the ladder, thereby exposing employees to the hazards associated with falls. d. On or about December 23, 2011 - at the above addressed jobsite, employees failed to use the metal spreader or locking device which was provided on the ten (10') foot step ladder to hold the front and back sections in an open position when the ladder is being used, thereby exposing employees to the hazards associated with falls.
