Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 or %% 1910.180(h)(3)(v): : The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crashing and multiple injuries. The alleged violations below have been grouped because they involve similar or related hazards that may increase the potential for injury resulting from an accident. a. Thimbles were not used in the eyes of the four 1/2 inch diameter chockers for the suspension system of the personnel platform for the 12 Ton Mobile Hydraulic Crane, on or about August 23, 1991. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure that all eyes in wire rope slings be fabricated with thimbles.
