29 CFR 1910.217(c)(5)(i): The employer did not use a control system and a brake monitor which complied with paragraphs (b)(13) and (14) of this section. Production Area. Employees used hand tools to perform hands-in-die feeding on the following mechanical power presses which were equipped with two-hand controls and adjustable hairpin barrier guards for protection against point of operation hazards. The presses did not have control reliability and brake monitors as required by paragraphs .217(b)(13) and (14). a. Bliss 110 ton press. b. Rouselle 60 ton press. Abatement note: The use of hand tools does not eliminate the requirement for control reliability and a brake monitor. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
