Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard: EXPLOSION
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Facility: Employees were exposed to potential fire and/or explosion hazards due to broken ignitor switch on the natural gas apparatus of the Shell Washer Tank. This condition required the manual lighting of pilot light on natural gas volve. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to implement a preventive maintenance program to replace the Flame Rod as would be necessary for safe and normal operation.
