Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:07/24/13 Location:Basement of Eaton Hall; Room G4 Condition:Employees used various corrosive strong acids and bases for performing laboratory experiments, including but not limited to, Hydrochloric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Acetic Acid, and Sulfuric Acid, without being provided with an emergency eye washing facility that was free of debris and capable of providing at least 15 minutes of continuous flushing water to both eyes. (b)Date of Violation:07/24/13 Location:Eaton Hall; Biology Room 207 Condition:Employees used various corrosive strong acids and bases for performing laboratory experiments, including but not limited to, Hydrochloric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Acetic Acid, and Sulfuric Acid, without being provided with an emergency eye washing facility that was free of debris and capable of providing at least 15 minutes of continuous flushing water to both eyes. Among other feasible methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to comply with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z358.1, "Emergency Eye Wash and Shower Equipment."
