Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard: DUST&FUMES
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Employees in the grinding area were exposed to fire and explosion hazards due to explosive aluminum dust and the employer did not ensure the dust from the dust collection unit did not recirculate into the building. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: 1) Perform a hazard analysis 2) Eliminate the grinding process 3) Substitute the aluminum for a noncombustible material 4) Vent system to the outside NFPA Standard 484 - 2006 Standard for Combustible Dust, Section 6.3.6: "Recycling of air from dry dust collectors into buildings shall be prohibited" ***Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d)***
