Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard: GUARDING
North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a)Service Department - - The load hook on the Wright-Airway chain hoist did not have a safety latch. REFERENCE:ANSI B30.10 - Hooks: Chapter 1 - Hooks: Section 10-1.2.1.3 - Periodic Inspections: (c) Hooks having any of the following conditions shall be removed from service until repaired or replaced. (5)Inoperative Latch. Any latch that does not close the hook's throat. NOTE:Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to install a properly sized safety latch on the load hook for the Wright-Airway chain hoist.
