Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards: (a)Pinneo Feedlot, Ltd. Liability Company at 32295 Highway 34, Brush, CO 80723: On or before 09/19/06, the employer did not ensure that a stairwell used to access the tool room had handrails. The stairwell measured 41" wide and 52" high with 6 steps, and was open on one side, with no handrails on either side. Condition exposed employees to fall hazards of up to 52". Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter") Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to install a standard handrail on the open side of the stairs. The criteria for a standard railing is also referenced in 1910.23(d), and 1910.24(h).
