Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of falling, being crushed or being caught between while 1) Being transported while sitting in the bucket of a T 130 Skid Steer Loader 2) being raised 8 feet plus up the side of the structure, standing up to conduct work and not having proper fall protection. CSHO observed violations on or about 11/17/2003. ABATEMENT NOTES: Among other methods, one feasible method to reduce this hazard is to, Follow the National Safety Council's Safety Data Sheet 1-589-Reaf. 84 section 9 wherein it states the following: No riders other than the operator should be allowed on the machine. No loader should ever be used as a work platform or staging. Sudden movement in the hoisting mechanism, caused by mechanical or hydraulic failure or human error, could result in severe injuries.
