Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the recognized hazards associated with falls from an elevation. Employees at the feed yard are exposed to severe injury or death from a fall when accessing the entrance holes on the tops of the whole corn storage bins. Employees are exposed to a fall of approximately 40 feet. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard include, but are not necessarily limited ot the following: (a)Install standard railings on the bins in accordance with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) A12.1 -1967. (b)Install fall protection on the bin in accordance with ANSI Z359.1 - 1992. Abatement certification is required for this violation. The abatement certification sheet is enclosed with the citations.ion
