Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.177(g): The employer did not establish a safe operating procedure for servicing single-piece rim wheels which contained, at a minimum, the elements listed in 29 CFR 1910.177(g)(1) through (12): On or about September 24, 2024, it was documented that employees performing wheel servicing activities in the maintenance department of Rail Modal Group, LLC located at 549 County Road T, Freemont, Nebraska were exposed to struck-by hazards in that the employer did not establish and implement safe operating procedures(s) for single-piece rim wheel servicing that included, but were not limited to: i. Only inflating tires when contained within a restraining device, positioned behind a barrier, or bolted to the vehicle with the lug nuts fully tightened, ii. Tires shall not be inflated when any flat, solid surface is in the trajectory and within one foot of the side wall, iii. Employees shall stay out of the trajectory when inflating a tire, and iv. Tires shall not be inflated above the maximum pressure necessary recommended by the manufacturer to seat the tire bead firmly against the rim
