Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a) On or about July 18, 2024, the employer did not ensure that the metal working lathe located in the machine shop contained a chuck/ chip guard to protect employees from the hazardous area. The lathe was not equipped with the guard during operation. b) On or about July 18, 2024, the employer did not ensure that effective machine guarding was in place on the box erector (automatic box folding machine) located in the facility. The equipment contained missing or broken barrier guards as well as broken or missing interlock mechanisms allowing employees to reach into the area of moving machine parts during operation. c) On or about July 18, 2024, the employer did not ensure that effective machine guarding was in place on the filler, muffin pan equipment. No guarding was in place to prevent employees from reaching into the moving machine components including pinch points. d) On or about July 18, 2024, the employer did not ensure that effective machine guarding was in place on the press 42 feeder system. Effective guarding was not in place to protect employees from the movement of the feeding mechanisms and table.
