29 CFR 1910.178(a)(4):Modifications and additions which affect capacity and safe operation shall not be performed by the customer or user without manufacturers prior written approval. Capacity, operation, and maintenance instruction plates, tags, or decals shall be changed accordingly. a. On or about April 2, 2024, employees were operating a CAT GC25K propane-powered forklift, serial no. AT82C-00090, equipped with a front-end clamp attachment to lift metal drums of material weighing approximately 300 to 1300 lbs. The employer did not ensure that the attachment was approved by the equipment manufacturer and updated the equipment data plate accordingly.
