Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. At the establishment located at 1325 West Fernau Avenue, Oshkosh, Wisconsin; the employer did not provide one or more methods of machine guarding to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area in the following instances: a) The TL-40B 124 (MFG NO 1771) CNC lathe was not guarded during operation to prevent entry into the machine, exposing employees to caught-in and entanglement hazards. b) The TL-40B 1980 (SN 1980) CNC lathe was not guarded during operation to prevent entry into the machine, exposing employees to caught-in and entanglement hazards. c) The rotating chuck of the TOS engine lathe was not guarded during operation to prevent contact with the rotating chuck, exposing employees to caught-in and entanglement hazards. d) The operator was not protected while polishing a part with emery cloth or sand paper on the TOS engine lathe, exposing an employee to caught-in and entanglement hazards.
