Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.101(b): "Compressed gases." The in-plant handling, storage, and utilization of all compressed gases in cylinders, portable tanks, rail tankcars, or motor vehicle cargo tanks shall be in accordance with Compressed Gas Association Pamphlet P-1-1965, which is incorporated by reference as specified in Sec. 1910.6. Section 3.3.1 of the CGA Pamphlet P-1-1965 refers to storing cylinders in accordance with CGA and NFPA standards The CGA Pamplet P-1-1991 Section 3.7.4.1 states that "All compressed gas cylinders in service or in storage shall be secured to prevent from falling." a) Southern Stamping, Inc. fabrication facility: On August 15, 2022 and at times prior, the employer exposed employees to struck-by hazards in that employees were allowed to use the Mig Welder without ensuring that the Carbon Dioxide gas cylinder was secured from being knocked over. Pamphlet P-1-1965 section 3.4.4 states that before using cylinder, be sure it is properly supported to prevent it from being knocked over.
