Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.217(c)(1)(i):The employer did not provide and ensure the usage of point of operation guards or properly applied point of operation devices on every operation performed on mechanical power press(es): (a) PRODUCTION AREA, METAL DEPARTMENT - Employees operated the General Electric C45 Bliss power press to punch holes in sheet metal parts, where the employees routinely removed the physical barrier guard for the point of operation due to it not fitting on the machine properly, on or about October 8, 2021. (b) PRODUCTION AREA, METAL DEPARTMENT - Employees operated the General Electric C45 Bliss power press to punch holes in sheet metal parts, and the guard that was used to prevent access to the point of operation contained an approximate 22 inch by 3 inch opening that would allow the operator to reach into the point of operation of the press, on or about October 8, 2021. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement.
