Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii): The point of operation of machines whose operation exposes an employee to injury, shall be guarded. The guarding device shall be in conformity with any appropriate standards therefor, or, in the absence of applicable specific standards, shall be so designed and constructed as to prevent the operator from having any part of his body in the danger zone during the operating cycle. a. On or about May 13, 2019, employees operated a Hydra-Tool Company hydraulic press brake in order to bend mild steel parts for vacuum truck tank fabrication and assembly. There was no guarding provided to protect the employees from the point-of-operation, thereby exposing employees to caught-between hazards. b. On or about May 15, 2019, employees operated an Atlantic hydraulic press brake in order to bend mild steel parts for vacuum truck tank fabrication and assembly. The light curtains installed on the press had been disabled and no longer protected the employees from the point-of-operation, thereby exposing employees to caught-between hazards.
