29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a) Western Sugar Cooperative located at 18317 highway 144, Fort Morgan, CO 80701: On and preceding March 7, 2019, the employer did not ensure that one or more methods of machine guarding was provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Employees utilizing the South Bend Precision lathe in the fab shop area were not protected from machine hazards created by the rotation of the lathe chuck and flying chips of metal. This condition exposed employees to caught-in/struck-by hazards. b) Western Sugar Cooperative located at 18317 highway 144, Fort Morgan, CO 80701: On and preceding March 7, 2019, the employer did not ensure that one or more methods of machine guarding was provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Employees utilizing a Hyd Mech Model S-20 horizontal band saw for cutting metal material in the back maintenance area were not protected from cut hazards created by a 6" section of the unused portion of the saw blade. This condition exposed employees to caught-in/struck-by hazards.
