29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): "Unprotected sides and edges." Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level shall be protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. (a) On July 31, 2018, located on the west side of a pipe and precast concrete plant, employees were performing interior demolition work within 6 feet of an unprotected wall opening while not utilizing a fall protection system. Potential fall heights were measured to be greater than 31 feet above the ground below. (b) On or about the 11 day period of July 10 - 30, 2018, located on the east and west sides of a pipe and precast concrete plant, an employee was removing demolition debris while standing at the edge of an unprotected door opening and not utilizing a fall protection system. Potential fall heights were measured to be greater than 24 feet above the ground below.
