Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.21(b)(2): The employer shall instruct each employee in the recognition and avoidance of unsafe conditions and the regulations applicable to his work environment to control or eliminate any hazards or other exposure to illness or injury. On March 20, 2018, located at a commercial structure, two employees working on an upper level scaffold platform were injured when a 'free rigged' load slipped off forklift tines and struck the scaffold platform, causing both employees to fall to the ground below. The employer did not instruct employees in proper rigging methods, use of proper rigging equipment and in the recognition and avoidance of those hazards of which a reasonably prudent employer would have been aware of while performing this work.
