Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.219(f)(3): Sprockets and chains. All sprocket wheels and chains shall be enclosed unless they are more than seven (7) feet above the floor or platform. Where the drive extends over other machine or working areas, protection against falling shall be provided: On or about 02 February 2018, employees were exposed to caught-in hazards as the employer failed to guard sprocket and chain assemblies on the following machines: a. Brew Co. Re-saw- The chain and sprocket did not have adequate enclosure. b. Dismantler- Multiple chains and sprockets did not have adequate enclosures. c. Knotcher- The chain and sprocket did not have adequate enclosure. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d)
