29 CFR 1910.255(b)(4): Guarding. All press welding machine operations, where there is a possibility of the operator's fingers being under the point of operation, shall be effectively guarded by the use of a device such as an electronic eye safety circuit, two hand controls or protection similar to that prescribed for punch press operation, 1910.217. All chains, gears, operating bus linkage, and belts shall be protected by adequate guards, in accordance with 1910.219 of this part. a. On or about July 12, 2017, employees were exposed to a crushed by hazard while operating the KVA #1 resistance welding machine due to a metal mesh barrier guard that did not effectively prevent the operator from reaching into the point of operation. b. On or about July 12, 2017, employees were exposed to a crushed by hazard while operating the KVA #2 resistance welding machine due to a metal mesh barrier guard that did not effectively prevent the operator from reaching into the point of operation. c. On or about July 12, 2017, employees were exposed to a crushed by hazard while operating the KVA #3 resistance welding machine due to a metal mesh barrier guard that did not effectively prevent the operator from reaching into the point of operation. d. On or about July 12, 2017, employees were exposed to a crushed by hazard while operating the KVA #4 resistance welding machine due to a metal mesh barrier guard that did not effectively prevent the operator from reaching into the point of operation. e. On or about July 12, 2017, employees were exposed to a crushed by hazard while operating the Niko resistance welding machine due to a metal mesh barrier guard that did not effectively prevent the operator from reaching into the point of operation. International Technical Coatings, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.255(b)(4) which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1069945, citation number 1, item number 16 and was affirmed as a final order on 01/06/2016, with respect to a workplace located at 845 Markison Ave. Columbus, Ohio.
