29 CFR 1910.215(a)(4): On offhand grinding machines, work rests shall be used to support the work. They shall be of rigid construction and designed to be adjustable to compensate for wheel wear. Work rests shall be kept adjusted closely to the wheel with a maximum opening of one-eighth inch to prevent the work from being jammed between the wheel and the rest, which may cause wheel breakage: Maintenance Department - On or about 01 September 2016, the employer failed to ensure that the work rests were properly adjusted on the Bradford and Jet Grinders. The work rests were not adjusted to within one-eighth of an inch from the abrasive wheel. This exposed employees to a caught in and struck by hazards from wheel breakage. JD Norman Industries, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1910.215(b)(9), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 394502, citation number 1, item number 5 and was affirmed as a final order on (date), with respect to a workplace located at 4650 Tiedeman Rd., Brooklyn, OH 44144. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
