Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard: FALLING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) On or about 02/06/98 for employees attempting to unload three pallets of shingles from a scissor type elevating stake-bed truck and exposed to a maximum potential fall hazard of approximately 14 feet created by the lack of standard fall protection. ANSI A92.7-1981 Section 13.2.4 requires that personnel shall maintain a firm footing on the platform while working thereon. Where required, harness/lanyard devices fixed to manufacturer's approved attachment points shall be used. Among others, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard would be to ensure any and all employees working on the elevated truck bed at heights greater than 6 feet are provided and required to use standard fall protection devices. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement Certification Letter").tion
