29 CFR 1910.261(a)(3)(vii) Section 204.1d Rule 5, American National %% Standards Institute A17.1-1965, Safety Requirements for Elevators, Dumbwaiters, Escalators and Moving Walkways as adopted by 29 CFR 1910.261(a)(3)(vii): The mechanical device which was provided to prevent the hoistway gate from being opened while the elevator platform was not at the level was not maintained in operating condition: Store Room Elevator - The doors of the elevator could be opened without the elevator platform being at the landing. Note: The mechanical latch was worn and would not prevent the doors from being opened.
