Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a) Employees were exposed to being struck by the release of molten metal in that the design and manufacture of mold number 15, as per Centrifugal Casting Machine Company drawings D-13604 and D-13606 for Johnstown Corporation was not performed properly. Material used to manufacture the mold wall was lower in strength than the strength of the materials specified on the mold drawing D-13604. One feasible method of abatement would be to use acceptable and proper engineering standards and quality control procedures.
