Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a potential amputation hazard or other injury: (a) The employer failed to maintain inspection, testing, and maintenance records for the freight elevator exposing employees who operate the freight elevator to potential injury. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow the requirements set forth in ANSI/ASME A17.1-1984 Rule 1004: Routine Inspection and Tests of Passenger and Freight Hydraulic Elevators. Rule 1006: Acceptance Inspection and Tests of Passenger and Freight Hydraulic Elevators. This company was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health standard or its equivalent standard which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 102763000, Citation Number 1, Item Number 5, issued on 04/12/2002.
