29 CFR 1910.1025(f)(3)(i)(A): Respirators required under 29 CFR 1910.1025 for protection against lead, were not selected from Table II of 29 CFR 1910.1025: in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.134(d)(3)(i)(A): a. Rear Yard, Ferrous Metal Scrap Burn Area - The employer did not select and provide the appropriate respirator that would maintain an employee's exposure to lead below the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit. An employee, who was performing torch burning of ferrous metal scrap, was exposed to 8-hour Time Weighted Average (TWA) of 0.8550 milligrams per cubic meter of airborne lead during a 384 minutes occupational exposure. The 8-hour TWA employee exposure was 17.1 times the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) of 0.050 milligrams per cubic meter. The employer required the employee to wear, respirators such as but not limited to, air-purifying 3M Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator 6300/07026 with 3M 2097 P100 filters. This respirator had an assigned protection factor (APF) of 10. Based on this employee's exposure to lead, the APF of this respirator was not high enough to maintain this employees exposure to inorganic lead at or below the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit. The violation was noted on March 7, 2019.
