Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003B Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.219(c)(2)(i): All exposed parts of horizontal shafting seven (7) feet or less from floor or working platform, excepting runways used exclusively for oiling, or running adjustments, shall be protected by a stationary casing enclosing shafting completely or by a trough enclosing sides and top or sides and bottom of shafting as location requires: On or about October 17, 2024, at a facility located at 1101 Mill Street in Niagara, WI; the employer did not enclose or otherwise protect horizontal shafts on Generators 5, 4, 3 or 1, which were located less than 7 feet from the floor or working platforms. Plant Operator employees were exposed to entanglement hazards presented by the rotating shafts of each of the Generators' shafts located between the respective turbine enclosures to mid-bearing housings; and between their mid-bearing housings and the Rotor/Stator assembly while they inspected the equipment and check oil levels at the mid-bearing housings.
