29 CFR 1910.243(c): Portable abrasive wheels - 29 CFR 1910.243(c)(5)(i):Immediately before mounting, all wheels shall be closely inspected and sounded by the user (ring test, see Subpart O, 1910.215(d)(1)) to make sure they have not been damaged in transit, storage, or otherwise. The spindle speed of the machine shall be checked before mounting of the wheel to be certain that it does not exceed the maximum operating speed marked on the wheel. a) On or about June 23, 2023, employees operated unguarded Dobco Top Cat pneumatic hand grinders with 6 inch silica composite wheels without performing ring tests, exposing employees to struck-by hazards. b) On or about June 26, 2023, employees operated a standing grinder with approximately 9 inch silica composite wheels without performing ring tests, exposing employees to struck-by hazards.
