Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003B Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.134(d)(1)(i): Selection of appropriate respirators was not based on the respiratory hazard(s) to which the worker was exposed and user factors that affect respirator performance and reliability: In the following instances employees were not furnished with appropriate respiratory protection against the hazards to which they were exposed: 1) Cutting Booth: Employees conducting cutting and grinding of completed bus shell articles wore half-mask elastomeric respirators with the incorrect cartridges to protect them. The workers wore organic vapor cartridges instead of HEPA cartridges as protection against the hazards of respirable particulates; 2) Front Shell Booth: An employee involved in Chop Gun operations and layup cleaning activities wore respirator cartridges that protected only against organic vapors. Because the activities generated both organic vapors and particulates the proper cartridges to wear would be combination cartridges that simultaneously protect against both hazards.
