29 CFR 1910.1025(e)(1)(i): For any employees exposed to lead above the permissible exposure limit for more than 30 days per year the employer did not implement engineering and work practice controls (including administrative controls) to reduce and maintain employee exposure to lead: a. Rear Yard, Ferrous Metal Scrap Burn Area - The employer did not use engineering and work practice controls, such as, local exhaust ventilation (hood, portable local exhaust, such as a "snorkel" exhaust system) or the use of water to suppress the fumes or mobile hydraulic shears, to reduce and maintain employee exposure to lead below the permissible exposure limit of 0.050 milligrams per cubic meter of air averaged over an 8-hour period. An employee, who was performing torch burning of ferrous metal scrap, was exposed to 8-hour Time Weighted Average (TWA) of 0.8550 milligrams per cubic meter of airborne lead during a 384 minutes occupational exposure. The 8-hour TWA employee exposure was 17.1 times the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) of 0.050 milligrams per cubic meter. The violation was noted on March 7, 2019.
