Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003B Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.964(a)(3)(ii): When a pole was set, moved, or removed near an exposed energized overhead conductor, the employer did not ensure that each employee wore electrical protective equipment or uses insulated devices when handling the pole and that no employee contacted the pole with uninsulated parts of his or her body: Site- The employer did not ensure that employees wore insulating rubber gloves rated for the voltage employees were exposed to and did not prevent employees from contacting a utility pole with the non-insulated parts of their body while setting a new utility pole between live conductors. On or about April 30, 2018, employees setting a 50 foot utility pole between live conductors operating at 34.5 kv contacted an energized conductor where Class-2 17000 volt rubber insulating gloves were worn by employees and the employee holding the butt of the pole sustained an electric shock when a non-insulated portion of their lower body contacted the energized utility pole.
