29 CFR 1910.138(a): General requirements. Employers did not select and require employees to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands are exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes: a) Dish Washing Areas: Stewards were not provided with nitrile gloves to prevent skin irritation hazards while handling Aqua Dry, Aqua Clean and Oven Jell. Stewards use synthetic vinyl gloves while handling these materials and were exposed to skin irritation hazards. b) EDR Employee Dining Area: Cooks were not provided with mesh gloves to prevent finger amputation hazards while handling knives and meat slicers. Line cooks used synthetic vinyl gloves and were exposed to finger amputation.
