Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003A Hazard: LIFTING
North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a)facility, pallet jack battery changing areas -- Under- the-Hook lifting devices (spreader beams), were being used to change out pallet jack batteries, without labeling to indicating the maximum load lifting capacity of each lifting device. The lifting devices had not been inspected prior to initial use and were not provided with frequent and periodic inspections. REFERENCE:ANSI B30.20-1985 Chapter 20-1 NOTE:Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement of these hazards is to inspect each under- the-hook lifting device, load test each lifting device and mark each lifting device with the maximum load limits.
