Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc.: On or about December 14, 2023, at a facility located at 246 Trowbridge Drive in Fond du Lac, WI; machine guarding was not provided to protect operators and other employees in the machine areas from hazards such as, but not limited to: a) On Dice/Shred packaging lines 1, 3, and 4; ingoing nip points presented by the clear rubberized conveyors located immediately downstream of the check weigher equipment, which exposed employees to amputation hazards where the conveyors ran over powered pullies. b) On the Slice Line at the Multivac; ingoing nip points presented by the blue conveyor immediate downstream of the end of the Multivac machine, which exposed employees to amputation hazards where the conveyor ran over the head pulley at the side of the belt and via a hole in the center of the belt. c) On the Triangle line; ingoing nip points presented by the blue rubberized conveyor on the underside of the conveyor's tail pulley, at the underside of the lower return bend pulley, and at the underside of the carry-side top bend pulley above the scale platform, which exposed employees to amputation hazards.
